This was informative. I, like the author, just assumed that modern OLED monitors were making pixels by turning on the right combination of RGB diodes. WRONG! They are essentially LCD screens that use the OLEDs as individual backlights (at least in LG consumer screens. I wonder how the professional Sony OLED monitors are doing it?).
It seems counter-intuitive, but I’m with the author: anything that gets the technology here faster is OK by me.
