Nikon now has their official video for the D800 up on their site through Vimeo. It was Written and Directed by Sandro Miller.
First take? Super well shot and edited, and I liked the narrative storyline rather than just the usual collection of disjointed images.
Second take? Hated the grading. The link above is un-modified: Nikon is advertising this as a High Dynamic Range Camera, but the blacks are so crushed in the video that we have no real perception of the range between “real” black and white. I initially thought the street scenes were very dark and that the camera didn’t do well in low light, but on reflection, the level is there, it just seems like it isn’t because the blacks are so crushed. Crushing the blacks would also tend to mask any noise that may be present as well. I was viewing on a laptop screen, your mileage may vary, etc. – but that’s my initial take.
